KWHS Volunteer Action Force

Thu, Mar 18th, 2010

The Volunteer Action Force (VAF) consists of a group of individuals, who partake in "one-shot" volunteer opportunities within the community. There are two groups of active volunteers (between 3 and 4 people per group) who, along with a Community Placement staff member, volunteer once a month with different agencies or at various events around Kitchener Waterloo.

So far the group has helped the MS Society Waterloo District, St. John's Kitchen, Waterloo Region Food Bank, and Mary's Place. Participants helped the MS Society mail their newsletters. A team of four stamped, folded, stuffed and sealed over 300 newsletters.

At St. John's Kitchen individuals helped serve food, clear tables and conversed with patrons. At the Waterloo Region Food Bank volunteers assisted in making boxes for food hamper use. Lastly, at Mary's Place participants took on a huge job of sorting their Christmas donations, labeling items and boxes and organizing boxes of goods for distribution.

With more projects in the works the VAF is sure to keep busy. If you have a task that requires a group of bright and giving volunteers and are interested in the services of the Volunteer Action Force, please contact Jennifer at the Community Placement Office by phone: 519-744-1272 or by e-mail: jgordon@kwhab.ca. There is no task too small or too big.

The Volunteer Action Force looks forward to working with you...
